Auto City Results 6/10/17

The weather was a bit hot, but so was the racing and it was nice to see the sunshine glow upon Auto City this past Saturday as the Auto Value Bumper to Bumper Sprints were there as well as all the regular series classes.

The Auto Value Sprints started the night out with two 8 lap heat races which showed the crowd how fast these winged warriors could go, being they are the fastest short track sprints on the planet.

After the green flag dropped, the drivers mixed it up and even challenged 3 wide racing down the backstretch but when the 8 laps were complete, the first heat went to the Litchfield, MI. native, and Jason Blonde (#42) who is no novice at wheeling a sprint car.

The second heat was about the same slicing and dicing and when it was over, the win went to the London, ONT. driver of Ryan Litt (#07).

Herald Pure Stocks were up next for their two heat races and in the first one, it was Bruce Dunton jumping to the lead and taking the win for his second win this season.

With the second heat, it was Tim Shann who took the early lead and never looked back and gained his first ever checkered flag victory.

The new All American Truck series heat race was a carbon copy of what we have seen earlier this year with Jimmy Bass (#116) and Josh Delong (#067) battling it out for the win. When the 8 laps were over, it was Josh Delong getting the win.

Then the intermission took place as well as the autograph session with plenty of goodies for the fans from the drivers as well as signed specialty photos created by JSK Motorsports for the drivers. Also, one of the Pure Stock drivers, Bryan Thompson (#66), donated two Kids Bikes that were raffled off and at no cost to any of the kids (or parents) which added to the fun festivities.

Then it was time for the feature races and started out with the Auto Value Bumper to Bumper Sprints. The battle was for 30 laps and at the start of the race, it was Ike Beasley on the pole with Geoff Kaiser alongside. Row 2 was Bobby Santos, Jr with Jason Blonde next to him and the fifth starter was Ryan Litt. It was Beasley who would lead the first laps and Litt moving up to 4th to 3rd by Lap 4. The middle laps saw Beasley stretch the lead out over Santos and Litt but by lap 13 the lapped cars forced the leaders back into a tight pack. Lap 17 saw Santos get around Beasley to take the lead and Ryan Litt was closing in on the chase. On lap 20, Santos went high in Turn 3 and Beasley and Litt both got around him, only to see Litt get around Beasley in the same pass and now had the lead. The only caution of the night was brought out on lap 26 and at the restart it was Litt, Beasley, Santos and a hard charging Jason Blonde. At the end it was Ryan Litt taking the win followed by Blonde on the high side, Beasley, and Santos.

Next up was the Herald Pure Stock Feature. With Bryan Thompson (#66) on the pole, alongside Bruce Dunton (#19), part of the top 5 didn’t even make it to the green flag as Jeff West (3w) went high coming to the green flag and put himself into the wall off the front bumper of Michael Hayes (#12). With Hayes now slowed down, he was hit in the rear by the Brent Mars (#27), ending Brent’s race for the night. Hayes was able to continue on. For the last 17 laps of this race, you could have thrown a blanket over the Top 5 cars of Josh Delong (#067), James JT Clayton (#55), Chad Lamson (#888), Randy Clayton Jr. (#54) and Michael Hayes. Back and forth every lap, every driver jockeyed for position in one of the best Pure Stock races in some time. In the end it was Delong winning by a car length over James Clayton. Half a car length from him was Chad Lamson and a length behind Chad was Randy Clayton Jr. One length back was Michael Hayes in the 5th spot.

The all new American Truck series feature was on tap next and it started with Greg Long (#21) on the pole with Josh Delong (#067) alongside, both doing double duties racing their pure stocks and their trucks. This was a race that was run as right turn only on the ¼ mile. It ended up being a battle continued from their Heat race, as Delong and Jimmy Bass (#116) battled it out for the win. Delong ran the high lane, with Bass running low. Near the end and running out of brakes, Bass nailed the back of DeLongs truck and in effect putting Bass out of contention due to the lost momentum. At the checkers it was Delong followed by Bass and Don O’Dell Jr (#44).

The last race of the night was the 12 lap Figure 8 and on the pole was Tim Shann (#22), followed by Anthony Richardson (#422), Tony Williams (#97 and returning for the first time this year), Brent Mars (#27) and Chad Lamson (888). Shann held the lead until Lap 3 when Williams got around him. Tony held the lead for 3 laps before a hard charging and 18 time champion Chad Lamson passed Tony. Chad held that lead on Lap 6 and continued on with the win and continues to be the series point leader.

Next week it is the “Prelude to the Windpusher 70” sponsored by Don O’Quinn’s Funeral Homes and the event will be featuring the open wheeled modified cars for the first time this year and they will be competing in TWO 30 lap feature races. Also on the schedule are the VROA Vintage modifieds, the Herald Pure Stocks, the Auto City Figure 8’s and the kiddie stocks. Racing starts at 7:00pm. Please check the Auto City Speedway website for more details.
