Auto City Speedway

RESULT AUGUST 9TH

The JEGS/CRA All Star Tour Series headlined the action at the Auto City Speedway on Saturday August 9th. The template bodied series pitted local stars against the traveling drivers and the fans enjoyed the battle between them.

Thirty-one cars took time trails for the JEGS All Stars, with Lansing's Chad Finley breaking the CRA track record with a 15.438. Two cars transferred from the 15- lap last chance race, as former track champ Jeff Owens took the win just ahead of Brandon Hermiller. Veteran Steve Dorer jumped out in front to start the 100- lap feature. There was plenty action throughout the 26-car field until the first caution flag flew on lap 26. Cody Coughlin and Kyle Hayden got together coming out turn 4 and the chain reaction caused a 6-car pileup. The race continued until lap 44 when another multi car chase happened on the front stretch. The wreck involved another 7 cars, the worst of which saw Jaxson Jacobs driving underneath the car of Joey Morrisette. Fast qualifier Finley chased down Dorer and challenged him until electrical problems forced him into the pits. Thirteen year old Grant Quinlan caught up to the leader and the two ran side by side going into turn one on lap 70 and Quinlan spun on the high side. Both cars were sent to the rear, giving the lead to Coughlin. But one lap later series point leader Dan Leeck took over the top spot. The caution flag came out on the next lap, and on the restart Eric Lee took the lead on the bottom and pulled away to win the victory. Leeck held on for second followed by Hunter Blaize, Quinlan and Coughlin.

The Pure Stocks were also in action as Lonnie Saumier Jr. set fast time with a 16.38. Heat race winners were Randy Clayton Jr. and Scott Beach. In the 30-lap feature Beach took the early lead and held it for the first 6 laps. The race went caution free as Saumier grabbed the lead and stayed in front to take the checkered flag. However his car was disqualified during post-race inspection, giving the victory to Craig Bastien. Jordan Lechota crossed the finish line in third, but he was also disqualified, so rounding out the top five were Beach, J. T. Clayton and Scott Platz.

It was Jim Miller Jr.'s night in the Street Stock division as he set fast time with a 16.68, then won the heat race and took the pursuit in just 2 laps. In the feature former track champ Al Boitel Jr. jumped ahead, but two laps later Miller took over and ran away with the win. Boitel took second followed by Rick Smith, Bruce Dunton, Jr. and Ray Derminer.

In was an exciting Figure-8 race as Maverick Morrow put his pick- up truck in front. On lap 2 Scott Platz got by him. On lap 9 Chad Lamson, behind the wheel of Rick Dinius' car kept in front of Lonnie Saumier Jr. to the take the win. Rounding out the top were Tony Williams, Platz and J. T. Clayton.

Auto City will take the week off on August 16th giving fans time to spend time with family and friends at B2B, Woodward Dream Cruze or the Nascar Weekend at MIS. Auto City come back strong with the Greg Yost Memorial for the Top Speed Modifieds on Saturday August 23rd. For more info call 810-686-9500 or go autocityspeedway.com.
