Auto City Speedway Results 6-30-18
Last Saturday was a hot one for sure, especially being at Auto City Speedway for the Maximum Destruction NIGHT OF FIRE. This night was not only going to be hot, but exciting and fun.
The night had guests as the U.S. Army had a booth, the Clio Fire Department brought out their ladder truck and the Bond of Brothers (21 19 1) were a part of the night as well.
After inviting all the Veterans, active military personnel and first responders out onto the track for pre-race ceremonies and national anthem, the stage was set for the nights activities.
First up was the All American Truck series. The fifteen drivers pulled numbers for their starting positions this night as not to have the drivers in those trucks any longer than needed. Josh Delong #067 actually had a bounty on him due to so many wins this year and started at the back of pack a straightaway length back. As the green flag was shown the race was on for the twenty lap feature. As Anthony Richardson #422 and Jacob Zervan #03 battled up front, Delong had caught the pack and was working through to get up front. He did so and the battle was on between Josh and Jacob. They switched the lead a few times, but when coming down to the checkered flag, it was Jacob Zervan getting his first win in the AATS with Josh right at his door for second. Anthony Richardson came home third.
The Lipstick Ladies (Auto City’s Powder Puff division) was next on the schedule for their feature and it was repeat winner and last years champion, Amanda Clayton #948 getting another checkered flag this season.
Now it was time for the ten lap boat race and as the twelve competitors started out with their boats in tow, the attrition started to wear on everyone. As the race got down to the last laps, it was Clayton Kinney #017 truck and Brent Mars #17 car battling for the lead. They went side by side for a few laps and then Brent’s boat took a big hit on the last lap, but the bow was still attached. When they crossed the finish line, Brent Mars took the win. Note, he was driving the car normally driven by Grant Parker.
The Draggin’ race was up and there were twelve competitors for this race as well. Anthony Richardson was up front holding off the field, but ended up taking a spin and giving the lead to Danny Smith #06 who, sporting a new truck, took the win.
Chain gang race followed and with ten teams out there to do battle, it was the teams of Josh Delong/Chuck Delong #067 and Gerald Persails #80/Justine Pepitone #948 duking it out back and forth. When the checkered flew, it was the Team Delong taking the win.
Push race was up now and with eleven teams, it was just as challenging, but when this race was said and done, the team of Gerald Persails and Justin Pepitone got the win.
The sparking skid cars came out for their race and as each leader ended up spinning, the #87 of Shane Fogarty ended up getting the win.
The fifty lap Enduro was next on tap and with thirty five vehicles you knew it was going to be wild. As the field stretched out and everyone trying to get to the front, the attrition started taking its toll. A few stand out action highlights were Kenneth McNarney #006 getting sideways down the front stretch and hitting the wall head on to deploy his airbag and a passenger airbag. The red flag was shown to hold up the field to get Kenneth out of his minivan. He was OK and the race went back to green. So with the race back on pace the next incident was Travis Eaton #313 rolling over on the front stretch as well coming to a rest facing the stands back on his wheels, but in the infield. The red was thrown and as the safety crew got there, Travis put his helmet on the roof, then the HANS device and then he climbed out on his own power to give the fans a wave that he was OK. So the race went back to green for a second time and as the race concluded, it was Josh Delong #067 getting the victory followed by Danny Smith #06.
Night Owl pyrotechnics took center stage after the Enduro to put on an awesome fireworks display and right after, the Burn Theory team came out onto the front stretch to show off their fire exhibition antics and then it was back to racing.
The school bus figure eight race was now up and as the busses started to spread out, the close calls to be more and more with even one hit on the tail end of a bus knocking all the built up dirt from underneath. When the ten laps were complete, it was Josh Delong again getting the win driving the Bond of Brotherz 21 19 1 bus. It was almost like it was meant to be as celebrating the 4th.
So the figure eight trailer race was the last race this night and with fifteen vehicles pulling all kinds of entertaining trailers and it was action packed. Some notables were Gerald Persails, Anthony Richardson and Josh Delong. When the dust settled and the last checkered flag flew, it was Josh Delong getting the win.
